Agentforce: what it is, pricing and alternatives

Agentforce is Salesforce’s AI agent platform, and in September 2026 it took another step: at Dreamforce, the company unveiled AIforce, which lets you use its agents from Claude, Slack or the CRM itself, after reporting more than US$1.5 billion in annual recurring revenue from Agentforce.

If your company runs on Salesforce, this affects you directly. If not, here are the alternatives and how to choose between them.

What is Salesforce Agentforce and what changed in 2026?

Short answer

Agentforce is Salesforce’s AI agent platform: agents that answer, decide the next step and act on CRM data, such as resolving a case, qualifying a lead or booking a meeting. You pay per action, per conversation or per user, and in 2026 it reached Slack and Claude.

On its official page, Salesforce describes Agentforce as the AI agent platform that provides autonomous assistance across the whole business. An AI agent is not a chatbot: it receives a goal, decides which steps to take and uses tools to achieve it. I explain the difference in detail in my guide AI agent vs chatbot vs automation.

Whether you search for Salesforce Agentforce or Agentforce Salesforce, it is the same product. It has been generally available since October 2024, when Salesforce launched its first service agent at $2 per conversation. Since then it has gone through five versions, up to Agentforce 360. You will also see it written as “agent force”, as two words, although the official name is one. These are the milestones that matter to a business:

What does Agentforce do for sales, service and marketing?

Salesforce Agentforce offers prebuilt agents by business area, working on the CRM and Data 360, Salesforce’s unified data layer. According to its official catalogue, these are the main ones:

  • Agentforce for Service. The service agent answers questions, resolves cases, manages orders and diagnoses issues without fixed scripts.
  • Agentforce for Sales. The SDR (sales development representative) agent responds to leads around the clock, handles objections and books meetings. Sales Coach trains sales reps with simulated calls.
  • Marketing. Campaign Optimizer analyses, generates, personalises and optimises campaigns against business goals.
  • Commerce. Agents that plan promotions, write product descriptions and guide B2B buyers all the way to order tracking.

Under the hood, the Atlas reasoning engine breaks each request into tasks, evaluates every step and proposes a plan. Agentforce Builder lets you configure agents, actions and instructions with little code. And Agent Script sets deterministic steps: points where the agent always does the same thing instead of improvising.

What counts as an “action”

An action is anything the agent does in your systems: looking up an order, updating a case or sending an email. It matters because, under the Flex Credits model, Salesforce charges per action rather than per conversation. The same case can use one action or ten.

My reading: with Agentforce, Salesforce is playing on home turf, because the agent already knows the Salesforce data model, with its accounts, opportunities, cases and permissions. If your company’s day-to-day work lives there, you skip the most expensive part of any agent project: connecting systems and giving the agent context.

Salesforce Agentforce news: what is Agentforce 360 and what did Dreamforce 2026 bring?

Agentforce 360 is the platform Salesforce launched at Dreamforce on 13 October 2025 to connect people and agents in a single system. It has four parts: the Agentforce 360 platform, where agents are built and governed; Data 360, which gives them context; the Customer 360 apps, with the sales, service and marketing logic; and Slack as the conversational interface. According to the same announcement, it has been available globally since that day.

Dreamforce 2026: AIforce, Agentforce Coworker and Koa

The headline announcement at Dreamforce 2026, in San Francisco, was AIforce, unveiled on 15 September: a layer that brings Salesforce data, workflows and permissions to any AI interface. In the words of Marc Benioff, Salesforce’s chair and CEO, “AI is creating an interface revolution”. AIforce comes in three parts:

  • Claudeforce: Salesforce inside Claude, Anthropic’s assistant, with an MCP server (a standard connector between AI and systems) and 37 sales skills, in beta for all customers.
  • Slackforce: live interfaces and a CRM you can run from Slack.
  • Agentforce Coworker: an AI teammate inside Salesforce that respects each user’s permissions and calls on the agents the company already has.

The official Dreamforce 2026 round-up adds another 18 announcements. The highlights are Koa, Salesforce’s first reasoning model for CRM, in pilot; role-ready agents such as Piper, which qualifies leads and books meetings; and agents that pursue goals over days or months. When people talk about “Salesforce AI”, this whole set is what they mean.

Slack + Agentforce: Slackbot as the way in

The link between Slack and Agentforce is direct: Slack is where people work with the agents. In October 2025, Salesforce presented Slack as the new agentic operating system and announced sales, IT support and HR agents inside Slack. On 13 January 2026 it launched the new Slackbot, a personal agent that searches conversations and files, schedules meetings and prepares customer meetings using Salesforce data. If your team already lives in Slack, it is the gentlest way to try agents.

Agentforce Vibes: AI-assisted coding inside Salesforce

Agentforce Vibes is Salesforce’s tool that lets developers describe what they want in plain language while an agent writes the code. It was announced on 1 October 2025, runs as a Visual Studio Code extension and is included in Salesforce Foundations, the free offering. It is not for business users: it helps your technical team or your partner build faster.

Agentforce World Tour in Spain: Madrid and Barcelona

In Spain, the 2026 Agentforce World Tour Madrid took place on 16 April in Hall 14 at IFEMA, with more than 3,500 professionals (in Spanish), and Agentforce World Tour Barcelona on 3 June at the CCIB, free with registration. Together they drew more than 6,500 attendees, according to Salesforce Spain’s review (in Spanish), with CaixaBank, Iberia and Repsol on stage. The next event already has a new name: AIforce World Tour Essentials Madrid, on 19 November 2026 at Kinépolis Pozuelo.

Read the ARR figure with care

Since the second quarter of fiscal 2027, Salesforce includes other AI offerings, Slackbot and Headless 360 in Agentforce ARR. The figure is not comparable with earlier quarters and does not tell you how many companies run agents in production.

Agentforce shines when your business already lives in Salesforce. If your process jumps between five systems, the question is not which agent to buy, but where it should live.

How much does Agentforce cost? Salesforce Agentforce pricing explained

Agentforce costs £0.08 ($0.10) per action with Flex Credits, £1.60 ($2) per conversation, or £100 ($125) per user per month for flat-fee access, according to Salesforce’s UK pricing page and US pricing page, checked on 12 October 2026. These are list prices, before tax and discounts, and each model suits a different kind of use:

The page lists other options too. The Agentforce user licence costs £4 ($5) per user per month and requires Flex Credits. Agentforce 1 Editions start at $550 per user per month, a price published only in dollars, and include 2.5 million Flex Credits per org per year, according to the US page. And Salesforce Foundations, at no cost, includes Agentforce Builder, Agentforce Coworker and Agentforce Vibes so you can start testing.

Which model works out cheaper? It depends on the number of actions per conversation: at list prices, the break-even point is 20 actions. Below that, Flex Credits wins; above it, paying per conversation does. Check it with your own numbers:

What are the alternatives to Agentforce if your CRM is not Salesforce?

If your CRM is not Salesforce, you have three alternatives: the agents in your own CRM or work suite, a general-purpose agent platform, or a custom AI agent connected to your systems. My recommendation: do not migrate your CRM just to use Agentforce, unless the migration was already on your roadmap.

  • Your CRM’s own agents. HubSpot, for example, offers Breeze agents for customer service, prospecting and data analysis, which use HubSpot credits every time they run.
  • Your suite’s agent platform. If you work in Microsoft 365, see how to build agents with Copilot Studio; if you work in Google Workspace, what agents Gemini Enterprise allows.
  • A custom AI agent. It is designed around your process, connects via API or MCP to your ERP, your CRM or your email, and you choose the model and where the data is stored. For what MCP is, see my article on the Model Context Protocol.

The mixed option exists too

Agentforce and a custom agent are not mutually exclusive. Salesforce already exposes its platform via MCP and API: an external agent can work with the CRM while Salesforce’s own agents handle what happens inside it. It fits when sales lives in Salesforce and operations in an ERP.

That is my territory as a designer of custom AI agents for businesses: processes that do not fit inside a single tool. For the wider context, read what agentic AI is.

Quiz: Agentforce or a custom AI agent?

Choosing between Agentforce and a custom agent depends mainly on three things: where your data lives, how many systems the process spans and how much volume it has. Answer with one specific process in mind and the quiz will recommend an option or a combination.

Quiz · Agentforce or a custom agent?

Think of one specific process (for example, handling complaints or qualifying leads) and answer the six questions.

  1. Which CRM does your company use?

The system that holds your customers, opportunities and cases.

  2. How many systems does the process you want to automate touch?

ERP, email, supplier websites, in-house databases, documents…

  3. What volume does that process have?

Conversations, cases, leads or tasks per month.

  4. Who will work with the agent?

Who asks it for things or receives its answers.

  5. Do you have a Salesforce admin or partner?

Someone to configure, test and maintain the agents.

  6. What matters most in your decision?

There is no right or wrong answer.

What does Agentforce mean for your business?

For your business, this means AI agents are no longer an experiment: they are sold as a product, with published prices and customers presenting them in public, as CaixaBank, Iberia and Repsol did in Spain. The impact varies by department and by whether or not you work in Salesforce.

LeadershipHigh impact

You need to decide where your agents will live: inside one vendor or spread across your systems. It is a decision about technology dependence and variable cost, not just an IT matter.

Sales and customer serviceHigh impact

These are the areas with the most mature agents: qualifying leads, booking meetings and resolving cases. If you use Salesforce, you can try them with prebuilt agents instead of starting from scratch.

MarketingMedium impact

There are agents for campaigns and commerce, but their value depends on having clean, unified customer data. Without it, the agent optimises noise.

IT and dataHigh impact

Permissions, credit consumption and MCP connections all need governing. And agents that talk to customers must comply with the GDPR and the EU AI Act.

On the legal side, if an agent deals with customers you need to be clear about your transparency and data protection obligations. I summarise them in my guide to the EU AI Act and GDPR for SMEs. And if what you need is an overall view before choosing a tool, that is the basis of my AI consultancy for businesses.

What should you do now if you are considering Agentforce?

Start with a specific, measurable process, not with the tool. These are the steps I recommend, in order:

  1. This week: take stock

Note which CRM you use, how many Salesforce licences you have and which systems the process touches. If half of it happens outside Salesforce, Agentforce will only solve part of it.

  2. This week: pick a process and measure how it works today

Handling complaints, qualifying leads or preparing visits. Measure volume, time and errors: that is your baseline. The MAPA method for mapping and automating processes with AI helps you draw it step by step.

  3. This month: ask for a quote with your real volume

Ask for an estimate under all three models and check it against the calculator above. Ask about leftover credits and the limits of each edition.

  4. This quarter: a tightly scoped pilot

One agent, one process and one person who approves anything sensitive. If you use Salesforce, start with Foundations or a prebuilt agent; if not, with a custom agent on top of your systems.

  5. This quarter: decide with data

Compare the pilot with the baseline and decide whether to scale Agentforce, build a custom agent or combine the two. To prepare the work there are free resources, such as the MAPA Template, in the resources section of my website.

Key points

  • Agentforce is Salesforce’s AI agent platform; since October 2025 it has been part of Agentforce 360.
  • Dreamforce 2026 brought AIforce: Salesforce’s agents, now also available from Claude and Slack.
  • You pay per action (£0.08 / $0.10), per conversation (£1.60 / $2) or per user (£100 / $125 a month), according to list prices as of 12 October 2026.
  • It fits if your business already lives in Salesforce; if the process spans several systems, consider a custom agent or a combination.
  • Start with a measurable process, a tightly scoped pilot and a person who approves what matters.

If you want to test your case with someone who does not sell licences, I am José Galán, a Search & AI Visibility consultant who also designs custom AI agents connected to the systems you already use.

Frequently asked questions about Agentforce

What is Agentforce and what is it used for?

Agentforce is Salesforce’s AI agent platform. Its agents work on CRM data to answer customers, resolve cases, qualify leads, book meetings or optimise campaigns, within limits the company sets. Salesforce launched it in October 2024 and, since October 2025, has bundled it into Agentforce 360 alongside Data 360, the Customer 360 apps and Slack.

How much does Salesforce Agentforce cost?

Salesforce publishes three pricing models. With Flex Credits you pay £400 (US$500) per 100,000 credits and each standard agent action uses 20 credits, about £0.08 ($0.10). Per conversation, it is £1.60 ($2) each. Per user, flat-fee access costs £100 ($125) per user per month. Agentforce 1 Editions start at $550 per user per month. These are list prices as of 12 October 2026, before discounts.

What is Agentforce 360?

Agentforce 360 is the platform Salesforce launched at Dreamforce on 13 October 2025 to connect people and AI agents in a single system. It brings together four parts: the Agentforce 360 platform to build and govern agents, Data 360 as the data layer, the Customer 360 apps with the business logic, and Slack as the conversational interface.

How does Slack work with Agentforce?

Salesforce uses Slack as the interface where people work with agents. In October 2025 it announced sales, IT support and HR agents inside Slack, and on 13 January 2026 it launched the new Slackbot, a personal agent that searches conversations and files, prepares meetings and pulls in Salesforce data. It is available on the Business+ and Enterprise+ plans.

What is Agentforce Vibes?

Agentforce Vibes is Salesforce’s AI development environment: a developer describes what they want in plain language and an agent writes the code for apps and agents on their Salesforce org. It was announced on 1 October 2025, runs as a Visual Studio Code extension and is included in Salesforce Foundations, the free offering. It is built for developers, not business users.

When were the Agentforce World Tour events in Madrid and Barcelona?

Both took place in 2026. Agentforce World Tour Madrid was held on 16 April at IFEMA, with more than 3,500 professionals, and Agentforce World Tour Barcelona on 3 June at the CCIB, free with registration. For the rest of the year, Salesforce has announced AIforce World Tour Essentials Madrid on 19 November 2026 at Kinépolis Pozuelo.

Can I use Agentforce if my CRM is not Salesforce?

Agentforce runs on the Salesforce platform: its agents rely on the Salesforce CRM and Data 360. If you use another CRM, you would need to bring into Salesforce at least the data the agent needs. The alternatives are the agents in your own CRM, such as HubSpot’s, general-purpose platforms such as Copilot Studio or Gemini Enterprise, or a custom AI agent connected to your current systems.
