AI agents for sales teams: fewer tasks, more meetings

A B2B salesperson spends a good part of the day on tasks that are not selling: researching accounts, preparing meetings, updating the CRM and chasing replies.

An AI agent can do that work and leave your team what only a person can do.

Short answer

AI agents for sales are systems that work with your sales team’s data (CRM, email, website) to do specific tasks: qualify leads, prepare the context for each meeting, suggest the next step and keep the CRM up to date. They analyse and propose; decisions with the customer stay with a person.

What can an AI agent do in sales?

Sales tasks an AI agent can take on
CriterionWhat the agent doesWhat the person keeps doing
Qualify leadsScores each lead with your criteria and the company’s public dataDecides whom to call and when
Prepare meetingsSummarises the account, the CRM history and recent newsLeads the conversation
Follow-upSpots stalled deals and suggests the next messageReviews and sends
Keep the CRM up to dateExtracts data from emails and notes and proposes updatesApproves the changes
ForecastingFlags deals at risk based on their activityAdjusts the forecast with what they know about the customer

Agent, chatbot or automation: what does your sales team need?

Not everything needs an agent. Choose by the kind of task:

  • Fixed steps

    Automation

The task always follows the same steps, such as creating a CRM task when a form comes in.

  • Conversation

    Chatbot

You need to answer the visitor in a conversation, with known information.

  • Judgement

    AI agent

You need to read varied information, decide what matters and propose what to do.

I explain it with examples in the guide AI agent vs chatbot vs automation.

AI for B2B sales: where does it fit with RevOps?

In teams with RevOps (revenue operations), the agent is one more piece of the system: it reads from the CRM, writes to the CRM and leaves a trail of what it proposes. That way you can audit what it did and why, and measure whether it improves conversion or response time.

  • Data

In the EU, under the GDPR

Data is hosted in the EU and processed under the GDPR.

  • Permissions

    Least privilege

The agent only accesses what it needs for its task.

  • Control

    A person approves

Every action that reaches the customer goes through a person first.

How do you get started with an AI sales agent?

  1. Pick one task

The one that eats most hours and adds least value. Measure it for two weeks: time, errors and cost.

  2. Map it with the MAPA method

Draw the process as it is today and decide what to automate, what to support with AI and what to leave to a person. See the MAPA method.

  3. Pilot in parallel

The agent works alongside the team, without replacing anyone, and we compare with the baseline.

  4. Decide with data

If it improves things, it goes fully live. If not, it is adjusted or dropped. What it costs is explained in how much does an AI agent cost.

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI agent replace a salesperson?

Not in B2B sales. It can take away a good part of the admin and preparation work, but the relationship, the negotiation and the decision stay with a person. The aim is for the team to spend more time selling.

Which CRM does it work with?

With those that have an API, such as HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive, and also with spreadsheets if that is what your team uses. It is decided in the design phase based on your tools.

What data does the agent need?

The data of the process it supports: the CRM, emails or meeting notes and, if it qualifies leads, public company data. It only accesses what is necessary, with data hosted in the EU.

How long does it take to be ready?

It depends on the process and the integrations. A pilot limited to one task is usually running in weeks, not months. The timeline is set after mapping the process.
