ChatGPT Business: pricing, plans and what is included

OpenAI rebuilt its team plan in 2026. ChatGPT Business, formerly ChatGPT Team, dropped to $20 per user per month billed annually on 2 April, introduced Premium seats on 24 August and now comes with agents that work inside your apps.

Here is what the ChatGPT Business plan includes, what it costs compared with Plus, Pro and Enterprise, and when your company needs something more.

What is ChatGPT Business (formerly ChatGPT Team) and what has changed?

Short answer

ChatGPT Business is OpenAI’s ChatGPT plan for teams of 2 to 200 people: a shared workspace with admin controls, SSO, connected apps and agents, where OpenAI does not train on your data. It was called ChatGPT Team until 29 August 2025. A Standard seat costs $20 per user per month, billed annually.

If you are looking for ChatGPT Team, it is the same product under a new name. OpenAI launched it on 10 January 2024 at $25 per user per month billed annually, or $30 month to month, according to its ChatGPT Team announcement. On 29 August 2025 it was renamed, and OpenAI’s help centre made clear that only the name changed: same features, prices and limits.

What has changed in 2026 is the plan itself. It has gone from “ChatGPT with one shared invoice” to a platform with agents, connectors and two seat types. These are the milestones, according to the ChatGPT Business release notes and OpenAI’s announcements:

  1. 10 Jan 2024

    OpenAI launches ChatGPT Team

At $25 per user per month billed annually, or $30 month to month.

  2. 29 Aug 2025

ChatGPT Team is renamed ChatGPT Business

    Only the name changes.

  3. 16 Jan 2026

    ChatGPT Go launches worldwide

At $8 a month in the United States. OpenAI announces ad tests on Free and Go; the higher paid plans stay ad-free.

  4. 2 Apr 2026

The ChatGPT Business seat drops by $5

It now costs $20 billed annually and $25 month to month.

  5. 22 Apr 2026

    Workspace agents arrive

Available to everyone from 21 May 2026.

  6. 9 Jul 2026

    OpenAI unveils ChatGPT Work

An agent for long-running tasks across your apps and files.

  7. 24 Aug 2026

Premium seats and a 200-seat cap

A Premium seat costs $100 billed annually or $125 month to month.

The latest change came on 7 October 2026: GPT-6 started rolling out to chat in eligible Business workspaces. For a sense of scale, OpenAI said in November 2025 that it had more than one million business customers.

ChatGPT Business pricing: how much does it cost compared with Plus, Pro and the other plans?

A Standard seat on ChatGPT Business costs $20 per user per month billed annually, or $25 month to month, with a minimum of two seats. A Premium seat costs $100 or $125. These are reference prices from OpenAI’s help centre, in US dollars and excluding tax, checked on 12 October 2026.

To choose well, put ChatGPT Business next to the rest of the ChatGPT plans. The first four are individual; the last two are for companies:

The individual prices come from OpenAI’s official pages for Plus, Pro and Go and from the Go announcement. ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month. ChatGPT Pro has a $100 tier with five times the usage of Plus and a $200 tier with twenty times, which has been closed to new sign-ups since 10 September 2026. ChatGPT Go costs $8 in the United States and has a local price everywhere else.

How much does a ChatGPT Business subscription cost in the UK and Europe?

OpenAI publishes its reference prices in US dollars and bills in local currency in many countries. According to its multi-currency billing page, pounds sterling are supported in the United Kingdom and euros across the European Economic Area, but OpenAI does not publish a price list in either currency: the exact amount appears on the pricing page and at checkout.

One useful detail: when you buy a ChatGPT Business subscription in a region that charges VAT, you can identify yourself as a business and enter your tax ID at checkout (a UK VAT number, or an EU VAT ID such as the Spanish NIF-IVA). According to OpenAI’s billing guide, that exempts the purchase from VAT on OpenAI’s invoice. Your accountant will tell you how to report it.

ChatGPT Plus vs Business: which one should you choose?

ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month and cannot be paid annually; a Standard Business seat costs the same if you pay for the year. The difference is control. With several Plus accounts, each person manages their own account, privacy settings and invoice. With Business, the company decides who gets in, which apps are connected and what the agents are allowed to do.

The fact that changes the decision

Since 2 April 2026, a ChatGPT Business seat billed annually costs the same as a Plus account. If two or more people at your company already pay for Plus, the price argument for not moving to Business has gone.

And if you are searching for “ChatGPT Premium”, it is not an individual plan: many people use that name for Plus. Since August 2026 there are Premium seats, but only inside Business.

What does ChatGPT for business include?

ChatGPT Business includes OpenAI’s most advanced models, connected apps, projects, deep research, agent mode, workspace agents and Codex, with a console to manage users, roles and spend. That is how OpenAI’s official plan overview sums it up.

Apps and connectors

  • Connectors to Google Drive, SharePoint, Slack, Notion and other tools. Since 23 October 2025, ChatGPT can use the company context stored in them.
  • Your own connectors: since 19 November 2025 it supports custom MCP connectors for search. MCP is an open standard for connecting AI to other systems; I explain it in the article on the Model Context Protocol and how it connects AI to your systems.
  • Write actions: since 13 March 2026 it can draft emails in Outlook or create documents in Google, but only if an admin switches this on.
  • Office apps: ChatGPT for Excel and Google Sheets (May 2026), PowerPoint (July) and Word (September).

Projects, agent mode and ChatGPT Work

Projects group the conversations and files on one topic and, since February 2026, can pull sources from connected apps. Agent mode carries out multi-step tasks. And ChatGPT Work, unveiled on 9 July 2026, is an agent for long pieces of work that moves across apps and files and delivers finished documents.

Workspace agents and Codex

This is the most relevant change for a company: anyone on the team can create an agent for a repetitive task, share it and schedule it. Whoever creates it sets safeguards on which actions it may take in each app, and admins can see its activity. Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent, is included in both seat types.

Watch the credits

The seat price does not cover everything. Workspace agent runs have been charged by tokens since 6 July 2026, and anything above the included limits is paid for with credits. Before rolling agents out to the whole team, set a budget in the console.

Standard seat or Premium seat

Both have the same features. A Premium seat gives five times more usage and does not have the five-hour usage limit of a Standard seat. It pays off for people who practically live in ChatGPT or Codex, and you can mix both seat types in the same workspace.

Is ChatGPT Business safe to use with your company’s data?

It is considerably safer than personal accounts: OpenAI does not train on workspace data, encrypts it and offers single sign-on. But data residency in Europe is partial, and regulatory compliance is still your responsibility.

  • Training: according to its business data privacy and security page, OpenAI does not train on your organisation’s data by default.
  • Encryption: AES-256 for data at rest and TLS 1.2 or higher in transit.
  • Access: SAML SSO, multi-factor authentication and three roles. SCIM and your own encryption keys are reserved for Enterprise.
  • Contract: OpenAI offers a data processing agreement (DPA) for GDPR purposes.

Can I keep the data in Europe?

Only partly. According to the help centre, when you sign up for ChatGPT Business you can choose the region where content is stored. The option is being rolled out gradually and does not include inference residency, that is, where your prompts are processed. Abuse-monitoring logs are kept in the United States.

Trade press such as Security Storage und Channel Germany, on 3 September 2026, reported that Europe is one of the available regions and that the option only applies to new workspaces. If processing must also happen in Europe, that is inference residency, currently an Enterprise feature.

New features reach Europe later

Several 2026 features launched without the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, such as publishing sites with ChatGPT. Check availability before you plan a specific use.

Buying Business does not exempt you from anything: you need a lawful basis for processing personal data, an internal usage policy and, if you serve customers with AI, you must meet the transparency obligations. I cover this in the guide to the EU AI Act and GDPR for SMEs.

When is ChatGPT Business not enough, and when do you need a custom AI agent?

ChatGPT Business is enough when the work happens inside the chat and the apps it already connects to. You need a custom AI agent when the task lives in your own systems, follows your business rules and has to run without anyone opening ChatGPT.

ChatGPT Business puts AI in the hands of each person. A custom agent puts it inside a process.

These signs tell you that you need more than a ChatGPT plan:

  • The key information sits in an ERP, a CRM or a database with no connector in the catalogue.
  • The task repeats every day with the same criteria: prioritising collections, checking orders, triaging incidents.
  • You need a person to approve certain actions and a record of every decision.
  • The result has to go back into your systems, not stay in a conversation.

If you are torn between a chatbot, an automation or an agent, start with the guide to the difference between an AI agent, a chatbot and an automation. And if the problem is a whole process, map it before choosing a tool with the MAPA method for mapping and automating processes with AI.

It is not one or the other

The usual answer is a combination: ChatGPT Business for the team’s day-to-day work and an agent for the process that takes up most of your time. That is how I work when I design custom AI agents connected to your systems: the agent analyses and proposes, and a person approves.

If your company runs on Google or Microsoft, also compare Gemini Enterprise, Google’s agent platform, and Copilot Studio for building agents in Microsoft 365.

Which ChatGPT plan does your company need?

It depends on how many people will use it, what data they handle and how much control IT requires. Answer the questions and the picker recommends a plan, explains why and estimates the cost using the official prices.

Which ChatGPT plan does your company need?

Count only the people who will really use it, not the whole workforce.

What information will you work with?

Do you need to connect Drive, SharePoint, Slack or other apps?

What level of control does your IT team need?

How heavily will you use it?

Do you want the AI to run a process inside your systems?

For example, checking orders in your ERP or prioritising collections with your own rules.

Recommended plan

ChatGPT Business

  • You work with company information: on Business, OpenAI does not train on workspace data.
  • There are several of you: Business centralises users, roles, billing and shared agents.
  • Business includes single sign-on (SAML SSO) and multi-factor authentication.
  • Connected apps (Drive, SharePoint, Slack…) are managed for the whole team, and write actions are only switched on if an admin allows them.

Reference cost: 5 Standard seats × $20 = $100 a month (billed annually), excluding tax.

For guidance only. OpenAI reference prices in US dollars, excluding tax, checked on 12 October 2026; the amount in pounds or euros is shown at checkout. Nothing is stored or sent.

What does ChatGPT Business mean for your business?

It means AI stops being each employee’s personal subscription and becomes a company tool, with a budget, permissions and risks. Whether you are weighing up ChatGPT for small business teams or for a larger department, the impact differs by area:

LeadershipHigh impact

With the annual seat at the price of Plus, there is no excuse for tolerating personal accounts holding customer data. It is time to decide on the plan, the credit budget and who is accountable for usage.

MarketingMedium impact

Agents and the Office integration speed up reports and content. And because your customers also choose suppliers inside ChatGPT, review your brand visibility in ChatGPT and Google and what changes with ChatGPT ads.

Sales and supportMedium impact

Connecting the CRM, email and knowledge base saves time spent searching. Replying to customers or updating orders with your own rules usually calls for an agent connected to your systems.

IT and dataHigh impact

Set up SSO, decide which apps get connected, keep write actions switched off until they have been tested and choose the data region when you sign up.

What to do now with ChatGPT Business

Start by finding out how ChatGPT is used at your company today, then decide:

  1. This week: take stock

Ask who uses ChatGPT, with which account and with what data. Personal accounts holding customer information are the first risk to close off.

  2. This week: choose a plan with real numbers

Use the picker with your real number of users and compare the annual cost of Business with what you already pay for individual Plus accounts.

  3. This month: run a small pilot

Open a monthly Business workspace with the team that will use it most. If the data has to stay in Europe, choose the region when you sign up.

  4. This quarter: set usage rules

Write a short policy: what data may be uploaded, which apps get connected and who switches on write actions and agents. Set a credit budget.

  5. This quarter: your first agent

Find the repetitive task that ChatGPT does not solve. To map it, use the MAPA template from my free resources for getting started with AI.

Key points

  • ChatGPT Business is the former ChatGPT Team: it was renamed on 29 August 2025.
  • A Standard seat costs $20 per user per month billed annually, the same as Plus; minimum two seats, maximum 200.
  • Premium seats ($100 or $125) give five times more usage.
  • OpenAI does not train on your data and SSO is included; inference in Europe, SCIM and your own keys are Enterprise features.
  • Agents and extra usage are paid for with credits: set a budget.
  • If the task lives in your ERP or CRM and follows your rules, the next step is a custom AI agent.

Frequently asked questions about ChatGPT Business and the ChatGPT plans

How much does ChatGPT cost in the UK and Europe?

According to OpenAI, as of 12 October 2026, ChatGPT Free costs nothing, Plus costs $20 a month, Pro starts at $100 and a Standard seat on ChatGPT Business costs $20 per user per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly. Go has a local price in each country. OpenAI publishes reference prices in US dollars; it can bill in pounds sterling in the UK and in euros in the EEA, and the final amount is shown at checkout.

What is the ChatGPT Business price per user?

ChatGPT Business has two seat types. A Standard seat costs $20 per user per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly. A Premium seat, designed for heavy users, costs $100 or $125 and gives five times more usage. A workspace needs at least two seats and, in workspaces created since 24 August 2026, the maximum is 200.

Are ChatGPT Team and ChatGPT Business the same thing?

Yes. On 29 August 2025, OpenAI renamed ChatGPT Team to ChatGPT Business to better reflect how companies use it. It was only a change of name: the features, prices and limits stayed the same. The plan itself has changed since then: on 2 April 2026 the seat price fell by $5 a month, and on 24 August 2026 Premium seats arrived.

ChatGPT Business vs Plus: what is the difference?

ChatGPT Plus is an individual plan at $20 a month that can only be paid monthly. ChatGPT Business is a workspace for teams of 2 to 200 people whose Standard seat costs the same when billed annually. Business adds an admin console, roles, single sign-on (SSO), agents shared across the team and OpenAI’s commitment not to train its models on workspace data.

What is ChatGPT Go and is it any use to a company?

ChatGPT Go is the low-cost individual plan that OpenAI rolled out worldwide on 16 January 2026: it costs $8 a month in the United States and has a local price in other countries. It offers more messages, file uploads and images than the free plan. It suits personal use, but it is not a business plan: it has no admin controls or SSO, and OpenAI announced it would test ads on it.

What is ChatGPT Premium?

There is no individual plan called ChatGPT Premium: many people use that name for ChatGPT Plus or for the paid plans in general. What does exist, since 24 August 2026, is the Premium seat on ChatGPT Business. It costs $100 per user per month billed annually or $125 billed monthly, gives five times more usage than a Standard seat and has no five-hour usage limit.

ChatGPT Pro vs Business: is Pro worth it for a company?

ChatGPT Pro is an individual plan for very heavy use: the $100 tier gives five times more usage than Plus, and the $200 tier twenty times more. Since 10 September 2026, OpenAI has paused new sign-ups to the $200 tier. For a team, ChatGPT Business with a few Premium seats usually makes more sense, because it adds admin controls, SSO and the commitment not to train on your data.
